A New Wine Brand in Moldova: Aproape Wine

Aproape Wine is the name of a new series of wines recently launched on the market in the Republic of Moldova (also exported under the name Verti Wine).

The collection initially includes a sparkling wine, four white wines—both single-varietal and blends—as well as a red blend.

The Aproape winery was founded by the Roșca family (known in Chișinău thanks to the Aproape restaurant), who decided to invest in winemaking as a continuation of a tradition inherited from their parents. The story began in 2020 with 24 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc planted in the “Codru” region, in the village of Hirova, Călărași district.

Today, the vineyard has expanded to nearly 120 hectares of owned vines, featuring both European and native grape varieties. In Orhei, the Aproape winery is currently under construction, with a full production cycle planned.

The Brut White Sparkling Wine is a testament to the excellent potential of Pinot Blanc from the country’s central region. Produced using the Charmat method, it features a yellow color with greenish reflections and a refined bouquet dominated by citrus, green apple, and floral notes. With 12.5% alcohol by volume and only 4 grams of sugar—almost at extra brut level—it offers crisp acidity and fine bubbles. Last but not least, it delights with an attractive shelf price of around 180 MDL.

Another exciting new release is the Chardonnay 2024, a single-varietal from the country’s central region, vinified in a “new world” style. It features tropical accents of pineapple and mango, with notes of vanilla and hazelnuts, and a rich, full-bodied flavor.

Both the sparkling and still wines are produced in collaboration with a renowned flying winemaker from France.

Last but certainly not least, an impressive classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, aged for six months in contact with oak. It exhibits an intense ruby color, with aromas of forest fruits and spices, a full, rounded taste, and a long-lasting finish.

All Aproape wines are produced in limited editions, ranging between 3,000 and 5,000 bottles per SKU. Shelf prices will vary between 150 and 170 MDL.

You can already find them on the menu at the Aproape restaurant, including by the glass, and soon in wine shops as well as major retailers such as Nr1, Kaufland, and Metro.
